Help me choose

Quick answer

  • Best overall, with a camera: PETLIBRO Granary Smart Camera Feeder (PLAF203). It has a 1080p camera with night vision, two-way audio, up to 10 scheduled meals a day, a 5-liter hopper, and dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). PETLIBRO says it is made for dry food and for cats and small to medium pets. (PETLIBRO)
  • Best value without a camera: PETLIBRO Granary Smart Feeder (PLAF103). It uses the same 5-liter hopper, meal range, and portion size as the camera model, minus the camera. (PETLIBRO)
  • Best for bigger meals and fast eaters: PetSafe Smart Feed, 2nd Generation. It holds 24 cups, serves 1/8 cup to 4 cups per meal, schedules up to 12 meals, works with Alexa, and has a Slow Feed mode that spreads a meal over 15 minutes. (PetSafe)
  • Most meals and finest portions: WOPET Patrol (F07 Pro). It has a 6-liter hopper, up to 15 meals a day, and 5 g portions. It connects only to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. (WOPET)
  • For multi-pet homes where one pet steals food: SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder Connect. It isn't a timed dispenser. It opens only for a registered pet's microchip or RFID collar tag, takes wet or dry food, and weighs what your pet eats. (Sure Petcare)

What a smart feeder does (and doesn't do)

A smart feeder is a dry-food hopper over a motorized dispenser, controlled from a phone app. You set meal times and portions, and it serves them on schedule. In our editorial view, three things matter more than the feature list:

1. What happens when the Wi-Fi or power goes out. PETLIBRO says its Granary feeders keep running meal schedules on batteries but turn off Wi-Fi (and the camera, on the camera model) to save power. (PETLIBRO) PetSafe says an offline Smart Feed keeps feeding on schedule as long as it has power. (PetSafe support) WOPET says the app and Wi-Fi need the power adapter, and the batteries are a backup for scheduled meals. (WOPET) 2. Your pet's food. PETLIBRO lists 2–15 mm kibble and dry food only for both Granary models. (PETLIBRO) PetSafe is the only timed pick that lists semi-moist food. 3. Your pet's size. PETLIBRO and PetSafe both describe their feeders as best for cats and small to medium pets.

The picks in detail

PETLIBRO Granary Smart Camera Feeder (PLAF203): best overall, with a camera

PETLIBRO lists a 1080p HD camera with night vision, a downward-facing 145° wide-angle lens aimed at the bowl, motion and sound detection with alerts, and two-way audio. (PETLIBRO)

Other maker-stated details:

  • Feeding: 1–10 scheduled meals a day and 1–50 portions per meal. Each portion is about 20 ml, roughly 1/12 cup. (PETLIBRO)
  • Hopper and freshness: 5 liters of dry food, a desiccant bag (PETLIBRO recommends changing it every 2 weeks), and an enclosed dispenser. (PETLIBRO)
  • Alerts: low battery, low food, and food jams. (PETLIBRO)
  • Power: a DC 5V adapter plus 3 alkaline D batteries for backup (not included). On batteries alone, Wi-Fi and the camera switch off while meals continue. PETLIBRO's comparison chart lists about 8 days of battery backup. (PETLIBRO, PETLIBRO comparison)
  • Video storage: recordings can go to a microSD card (not included), which you can view only in the app. A Video Cloud subscription is optional. (PETLIBRO)
  • Warranty: 24 months, with a 30-day money-back guarantee on orders from PETLIBRO's own site. (PETLIBRO)

Who it's for: owners of cats and small dogs who want visual proof of each meal. Skip it if you already have a camera on the bowl, feed wet food, or have a large dog. PETLIBRO pitches it at small and medium pets.

PETLIBRO Granary Smart Feeder (PLAF103): best value without a camera

If you don't need video, PETLIBRO's non-camera Granary keeps the same core feeding hardware. It has a 5-liter hopper, 1–10 meals a day, 1–50 portions of 20 ml per meal, the 2–15 mm kibble range, and dual-band Wi-Fi. (PETLIBRO)

Other maker-stated details:

  • Extras: up to 10 meal-call recordings, a "quadruple sealing" design, and an optional dual bowl with meal splitter for two pets. (PETLIBRO)
  • Power: a power adapter plus 3 D batteries. Wi-Fi turns off on battery while meals continue. The comparison chart lists about 7 days of backup. (PETLIBRO comparison)
  • Warranty: 24 months. (PETLIBRO)

Who it's for: owners who want a dry-food schedule and alerts without paying for a camera. Skip it if you want to watch meals or feed wet food.

PetSafe Smart Feed, 2nd Generation: best for bigger meals and fast eaters

The PetSafe Smart Feed has the largest single-meal range of the timed picks: 1/8 cup up to 4 cups per meal, scheduled up to 12 times a day, from a 24-cup hopper. Its Slow Feed setting spreads a meal over 15 minutes for pets that eat too fast. (PetSafe)

Other maker-stated details:

  • Food and smart home: dry and semi-moist food, Feed Now from the app or a pet-proof button, low and empty food sensors, Alexa, and Amazon Dash Replenishment. (PetSafe)
  • Cleaning: the lid, hopper, bowl, and bowl holder are top-rack dishwasher safe. A stainless steel bowl and holder are included. (PetSafe)
  • Connectivity: 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only. PetSafe support says extenders or mesh networks can cause connection trouble. (PetSafe, PetSafe support)
  • Power and returns: AC adapter with an optional 4 D-cell battery backup (not included). 45-day satisfaction guarantee. (PetSafe)

Who it's for: owners of medium dogs or big eaters who need larger portions, fast eaters, and Alexa households. Skip it if you want a camera, or your router setup makes a 2.4 GHz-only device hard to keep online.

WOPET Patrol (F07 Pro): most meals and finest portions

WOPET's current Patrol model has the most flexible schedule here: up to 15 meals a day, 1–50 portions of 5 g each, and a 6-liter hopper. (WOPET)

Other maker-stated details:

  • App, food, and lid: WOpet Life app with multi-user sharing, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only, kibble 5–15 mm, a 10-second meal call, and a twist-lock lid. (WOPET)
  • Power: the included adapter or 3 D batteries (not included) as backup. Wi-Fi and the app need the adapter. (WOPET)
  • Warranty: WOPET advertises a 24-month extended warranty and 30-day money back. (WOPET)

A note on WOPET names: the Patrol F07 Pro has no camera. WOPET's camera feeder for two cats (model HV10DP) is a different product, and Amazon listed it as "Currently unavailable" on October 25, 2026. (Amazon listing) Check the model number before you buy.

Who it's for: owners who want many small meals and a big hopper. Skip it if you have a 5 GHz-only network or want a camera.

If one pet steals another's food: SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder Connect

This one isn't a timed feeder. Sure Petcare's manual says it "does not contain a timer." (Sure Petcare manual) Instead, a sealed lid opens only for a registered pet's implanted microchip or a Sure Petcare RFID collar tag. In our editorial view, that suits prescription diets and food thieves. (Sure Petcare)

Maker-stated details:

  • Food: wet and dry. The bowl holds 400 ml. Use one bowl (about 250 g, at least 2 wet food pouches by Sure Petcare's figure) or two half bowls of up to 100 g each. (Sure Petcare, manual)
  • Portions and data: built-in scales and LED lights guide you to portions within 1 g. The Sure Petcare app shows how much and how often each pet eats. (Sure Petcare)
  • Connection: the feeder requires the Sure Petcare Hub (sold separately), which plugs into your router. One Hub connects up to 10 devices, including Sure Petcare's connected doors. (Sure Petcare)
  • Power and warranty: 4 alkaline C batteries, with a low-battery light. Sure Petcare cites about 6 months per set of batteries and a 3-year warranty once you register in the app. (Sure Petcare)

Who each feeder is for

  • You want to watch every meal: PETLIBRO Granary Smart Camera Feeder.
  • You want a dependable dry-food schedule and don't need video: PETLIBRO Granary Smart Feeder.
  • Your dog eats big meals or eats too fast, or you use Alexa: PetSafe Smart Feed, 2nd Generation.
  • You want many small meals and a big hopper: WOPET Patrol F07 Pro.
  • You have multiple pets on different diets, or you feed wet food: SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder Connect (not timed).
  • You have a large-breed dog: none of these is marketed for large dogs, so check each per-meal maximum.

Setup tips

1. Run it while you're home first. Watch the real schedule for several days before a trip, and check that portions match your vet's advice. 2. Match your Wi-Fi band. PetSafe and WOPET connect only on 2.4 GHz. 3. Fit fresh backup batteries. PETLIBRO specifies alkaline D cells. Sure Petcare says its feeder is not designed for rechargeable batteries. (manual) 4. Check your kibble size against the maker's range to avoid jams. 5. Keep it fresh. Replace PETLIBRO's desiccant every 2 weeks, and wash bowls regularly. 6. For SureFeed, use training mode. Sure Petcare says it slowly introduces more lid movement so your pet gains confidence. (manual) 7. Keep a person in the loop. A feeder can't refill water, notice illness, or clear a jam. In our editorial view, longer trips still need someone checking in.

FAQ

Can I put wet food in a smart feeder?

Not in most timed feeders. PETLIBRO says both Granary models are dry-only, and PetSafe lists dry and semi-moist. The SureFeed takes wet or dry food in a sealed bowl but has no timer. (PETLIBRO, PetSafe, Sure Petcare)

Do smart feeders keep working without Wi-Fi?

The makers say scheduled meals continue offline, and you lose app control until the connection returns. (PetSafe support, PETLIBRO, WOPET)

Do I need a subscription?

Not for scheduled feeding with any pick here. PETLIBRO sells an optional Video Cloud plan for the camera model, and you can store clips on a microSD card instead. The SureFeed needs a separately sold Hub for app features. (PETLIBRO, Sure Petcare)

Which smart feeder is best for two cats?

If both cats eat the same food, PETLIBRO offers a dual-bowl Granary. If one needs a special diet or steals food, a microchip feeder such as SureFeed keeps each cat to its registered bowl. (PETLIBRO, Sure Petcare)

How much food does a smart feeder hold?

By maker figures: PetSafe 24 cups, WOPET Patrol 6 liters, and PETLIBRO Granary 5 liters. How long that lasts depends on daily portions.

Can a smart feeder help my pet lose weight?

It can help you stick to exact portions and smaller meals, such as PetSafe's Slow Feed or WOPET's 5 g portions. Ask your vet for a daily amount first. SureFeed also logs how much each pet eats. (PetSafe, WOPET, Sure Petcare)
